Growing in Love with Jesus, part 1

The Christian isn't just to know about Jesus - we are called to know Him.  When I met my husband, almost 26 years ago, I knew about him but I didn't personally know him.  As we spent time together I grew to learn more about who he was, what his character was like, the things he took pleasure in and the things that he was strongly opposed to.  As I began to spend more time with him and got to know him, I fell in love with him.  Praise the Lord, I am still learning and still falling in love with him.  :-)

This is true of our relationship with Jesus too.  The more time we spend with him, getting to know Him through His word, through quiet times of sharing together and in service to Him the more we will fall in love with Him.  He desires us to have this close relationship with Him.  He doesn't want to be some far off thought or duty.  He doesn't want to be the top item on our daily to do list.  He wants to be our everything.  He wants to be the center of our lives and He should be!

Growing in love with the Lord takes intentionality, we are told to seek after Him with our whole heart and when we do He will be found by us.  (Jeremiah 29:12-13)  Seeking Him with our whole heart isn't crossing off "Quiet time" on our to-do list and then moving on with our day, although there does need to be a committed discipline of making the time to spend with Him..  Seeking after Him with our whole heart is turning to Him in every moment of our day, in times of rejoicing, in times of sadness or frustrations, it is becoming aware of how and what we are spending our time on and then making adjustments accordingly.

Seeking after and growing in love with the Lord should be our response to His loving us and for no other reason than wanting to return that love.  Any other reason will cause us to fall back empty and frustrated because our focus isn't on being with Him but rather on what we are getting from Him.  We were created to be in fellowship with Him, our spirits long for this fellowship with Him and once we have experienced it we will never be satisfied with anything less.

"For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness"  Psalm 107:9
